Origins of the Mighty Liberators & Clarissa Street roots (by Mighty Liberators Drum & Bugle Corps)
Scotty’s Saber Drum Corps folded in 1972 during urban renewal. A member of the corps as a youth, Emmet Porter, took the mantle and founded the Mighty Liberators out of Action for a Better Community, an anti-poverty program.

Scotty’s Sabor Drum Corps (precursor to the Mighty Liberators Drum & Bugle Corps) was a staple on Clarissa Street, engaging youth and hosting parades. Scotty owned a billiards business on the street also.
